How to Decide if Windscreens Should be Repaired or Replaced?

Windscreens are designed to provide structural support for the vehicle and to provide protection while moving on the highway. At times some damages occur, which the owner should not ignore, but take immediate action.

It is not just that each damage would need a replacement; a few of them can be handled by cracked windscreen repair. The protective glass screen is made of two layers. The inner one is called the lamination, which holds the broken glass together.

An expert in the field would assess the damage and then decide if the windshield should be replaced or can be repaired. The factors that one would consider include:

•  Size and depth: If the chip is in the range of 1-inch diameter or the crack is about three meters long, then the damage would need a replacement. If the damage is anything smaller than this, the expert would be able to restore it, very close to the previous condition. In a few cases, the long cracks are also repaired, it completely is in the hand of the mechanic.

•  Type: The technician can repair some cracks like the start break, bulls-eye, crack chip, ding or pit easily. In short, the damage that can be covered by a coin are repaired easily, if not, a replacement would become mandatory.

•  Location: Good repairs could leave discolouration, mistiness or unevenness. This could create a problem in the line of vision. Hence, if the damage is creating a problem for the driver, then the experts suggest replacement of the windscreen.

The experience would be able to provide the best solution, which could be of great help in future.
