When Is The Correct Time To Go For Windscreen Repairs?

A few years ago, ‘auto windscreen repairs’ was an alien word for many professionals in the field. A chip or crack would mean getting the windshield replaces, which is generally quite expensive. Today, with the help of modern technology, it has become very easy to repair the windscreens in most cases, thus saving money and time as well.

If the windscreen or the window in extensively damages, the experts suggest for immediate windscreen or car window replacement. This is mainly because repair work is possible only in certain conditions and ignoring the damaged window or windscreen could raise a few safety issues.

The few cases in which the windscreen can be repaired would depend mainly on three factors. They are:
  • Type of damage: If the damage is in the form of chips, it can be repaired if it meets the other two criteria. If the glass is cracked, it needs replacement, as it cannot be repaired. A minor looking crack can have significant effect in compromising the safety of people travelling in it. The airbags would also work effectively, if the glass is broken or damaged, thus put the life of people in danger.
  • Size: The chips should be small for them to be repaired easily. The size should not be bigger than 2 AUD. In few cases, if the size is small and the location is in the centre, it cannot be mended mainly because of the depth and other related issues.
  • Position: the distance between the edge and location of the chip should be more than 7 cm. Damages located close to the edge would potentially weaken the windscreen, so it would need a replacement. The chip should not be in the line of vision, and no bigger than 10 mm.
An experienced technician would be able to assess the damage and suggest for repair or replacement. They would be able to complete the work in a few hours, with no traces of the damage.
